Back from Taiwan (2 Days Ago...)

I came back from Taiwan 2 days ago, arriving home only at about 12 plus in the morning. Knowing that I have to work on the next day, I had to make thins snappy and go to bed.

The trip anyway was quite fun, as I enjoyed my stay there. But what i enjoyed most of all was the 台湾高铁 (Taiwan High Speed Rail - literally) trip from Taipei to Hsinchu and back. The train travelled at a maximum speed of 300kph (186mph - about the same as the top speed of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage) in the straights but slowed down slightly in the curves. In the tunnel, it was limited to about 60-70kph. Its was a great feeling travelling at 300kph on the ground, and even more astonishing is that its does 0-60mph in more than a minute. Theoretically speaking, the train could achieve 315kph (193mph - about the same top speed as a Porsche 911 GT3) if the limiter was removed. Not too bad for something that weighs about the same 503 tonnes.

The next thing was the Taipei 101, the tallest standing skyscraper in the world. Its has 101 levels (hence the name) above ground, and 5 underground floors. It is also one of the most stable buildings in the world, able to withstand earthquakes and typhoons. The visiting areas are limited to 3 levels - 88, 89, and 91, the open top observatory, the tallest in the world.

Admission is priced at NT$400 each, but for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, it was really worth it.

Oh, i forgot to mention ta=hat the Taipei 101 has the 2 of the world's fastest elevators, travelling at about 16.83 m/s (55.22 ft/s) (60.6 km/h, 37.7 mi/h).

Most of my days there were spent at night markets and scenic spots. Even though the weather was baking and scorching, I still did had fun.
